4.2 Sampling.- Completely assembled compressors, including driving motors, controllers, and.
a ll equipment or fittings shall be selected by the Government inspector in accordance with table III,
Table III - Sampling for tests.
4.3.1 The various parts of each compressor shall be hydrostatically tested at the place of manu-
facture in accordance with the following:
(a) Cylinders, 1-1/2 times the maximum designed working pressure.
(b) Water jackets, 225 p.s. i. g.
(c) Intercoolers, and aftercoolers, 225 p. s, i. g. on the water side and
1-1/2 times the maximum design working pressure on the air side,
(d) Piping and other parts not mentioned above and subjected to pressure
shall be tested to 1 -1/2 times the maximum designed working pressure.
4.3.2 Each unit selected in accordance with 4.2 shall be subjected to the tests specified in 4
4.2.3 Each compressor not selected in accordance with 4.2 shall be subjected to the tests speci-
fied in 4.4.3
4. 3.4 Test method.- Capacity tests of compressors shall be in accordance with the test proce-
dures outlined in the second edition of the Compressed Air Handbook published by the Compressed Air
and Gas Institute.
4.4 Test procedures.-
4.4.1 Electrical.- Motors and controllers shall be tested as required by the applicable speci-
fications listed in section 2.
4.4.2 Performance tests. - Compressor units selected in accordance with 4.2 shall be submitted
to a continuous running test of 8 hours' duration at normal capacity and pressure. Test shall run under
normal electrical conditions specified in the contract or order, Power consumption tests shall be con-
ducted as a part of the tests. On these tests the following data shall be recorded at the start and finish
of the run and at regular intervals, not exceeding 1/2 hour, throughout the run:
4.4.2.1 Recorded data. -
MECHANICAL
(a)
Dry bulb ambient temperature.
(b)
Wet bulb ambient temperature.
Intake temperature (in air stream close to intake).
(c)
Barometer readings.
