Air transportability.
The air transportability
requirement for the C-130 and C-141 aircraft in accordance with
MIL-STD-1791 (see 3.24.6.3) shall be certified.
Nonconformance to
3.24.6.3 shall constitute failure of this test.
Capacity.
Test each compressor for capacity in
4.5.2.22
accordance with 4.5.2.4 except that each compressor shall be tested
as a unit driven by its gasoline engine.
Prior to testing, run-in
each compressor as prescribed by the contractor.
Occurrence of one
or more of the following conditions shall constitute failure of this
test:
Discharge air pressure less than 175 psig.
Discharge air temperature in excess of ambient temperature
.
+100 °F.
Free-air capacity less than that specified in table I.
4.6 Inspection of Packaging.
The presentation, packing, and
marking shall be examined and tested to determine compliance with
the quality assurance provisions of MIL-C-3600.
The presentation,
packing and marking shall be examined to determine compliance with
the requirements specified in section 5.
5.
PACKAGING
5.1 Preservation.
Preservation of each compressor accessories,
repair parts, tools, and publications, shall be in accordance with
level A, B, or C requirements of MIL-C-3600, as specified (see 6.2) .
5.2
Packing.
Packing shall be level A, B,
or C as specified (see
6.2).
5.2.1 Level A and B.
Each compressor, preserved as specified in
5.1, shall be packed in accordance with the applicable level A or B
requirements of MIL-C-3600.
5.2.2 Level C.
Each complete compressor and all items issued
with the compressor, preserved as specified in 5.1, shall be packed
to assure carrier acceptance and safe delivery to destination at
lowest ratings in compliance with Uniform Freight Classification
rules or National Motor Freight Classification rules; and as a
minimum compressors shipped loose or mounted on skids in lieu of
being boxed or crated shall be protected with a minimum 6 mil
waterproof plastic shroud.
The shroud shall be placed over the
compressor and secured to the compressor base.
Openings in skids
shall be a minimum of 3 inches in height to provide access for
forklift tines.
Support legs of trailer mounted compressor shall be
utilized for packing and storage only and shall not be used for
support of the trailer during shipment.
5.3 Marking.
In addition to any special or identification
markings required by the contract or purchase order (see 6.2) ,
marking shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-129.
